National Single Window can bring about visible, measurable change
Business owners eagerly look forward to the commissioning of the national single window system (NSWS) by the Union Commerce & Industry Ministry which will help to visibly and measurably realise the Prime Minister’s vision of converting red tape to red carpet.
The new initiative by the Commerce & Industry Ministry can not only enhance the ease of doing business but also go on to be one of the biggest reforms in business governance.
We are heartened to note that from next year, businesses and investors can get various clearances and approvals from not just the Central government but also the State government departments just by submitting their Permanent Account Number (PAN) which will become the only single identification in future.
That the NSWS portal will also give approval for new projects, facilitate land purchase, renewal of licenses and even return filing on the basis of the PAN number identification is perhaps one of the biggest governance reforms for businesses.
We now hope that the Government of Karnataka would get onboard the NSWS if it has not already, so that this benefit can be passed on to businesses.
The scope of NSWS mode of approvals and clearances is really vast as going forward, it will cover policy implementation, inspections and processing of PLI applications, among others.
On our part, FKCCI will actively work with the Government to encourage Industry & Trade to make full use of the portal so that it will not only help realise its original objectives for which it was conceived but also identify any glitches at the ground level in the implementation which can be sorted out to mainstream the portal in governance issues related to business enterprises.
“It will also help in improving compliances to a large measure as the portal will also send out reminders for pending regulatory requirements, which will significantly assist both the government as well as businesses.
