FKCCI Campaign for early commissioning of FMCG Cluster @ Hubballi-Dharwad – B.V. Gopal Reddy

FKCCI warmly welcomes the inauguration of a fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) cluster parkin Hubballi-Dharwad by Hon’ble Chief Minister, Sri Basavaraj Bommai.

Further, the MoUs signed by the Government with nearly 15 large FMCG companies to set up production units in the industrial cluster will give a much needed boost to trade in the region.

The icing on the cake is that the cluster is expected to generate around 5 lakh direct and indirect jobs which will not only boost economic development in the north Karnataka but also empower unemployed youth, at a time of great economic stress nationally and globally.

The FMCG cluster took time to become a reality after it was conceived 3 years ago, and so it is now incumbent on the Government to make up for the lost time.

The Government should take steps to leverage the region’s multiple advantages such as its connectivity to 8 metros within a 1,000 km radius through national highways, direct air connectivity to major cities, existing logistics hub, availability of skilled labour, and a large presence of engineering colleges, are harnessed to maximize the potential.

The top priorities for the Government now has to be to quickly move to acquire the balance of 2,000 acres land out of 5,000 acres needed for the cluster.

On its part, FKCCI will launch a campaign to encourage industries to set up shop in the cluster and benefit from the offer of 20% subsidy and another possible 3% of performance-linked incentive of the annual turnover for 5 years.
