Centre’s takeover of some State Highways welcome – B.V. Gopal Reddy

FKCCI welcomes the statement by Hon’ble Union Road Transport & Highways Minister, Sri Nitin Gadkari that the Centre plans to take over the State Highways with high traffic density from the State Governments for a period of 25 years.

The Minister has said that thereafter, these State highways will be converted into 4 or 6 lane highways and then the Centre will collect toll from those highways.

This will provide huge relief to Industry & Trade and also to commuters, since movement of people and goods will be easier, swifter and more efficient.

We also hail the plans to develop a green express highway between Mumbai and Bengaluru which will reportedly just be a five-hour journey and also connect to Pune which could take only around 4 hours, and also a Chennai-Bengaluru highway which will be ready by the end of the year.

This spurt in infrastructure-building will give impetus to realising the Ministry’s goal of doubling the growth in the country’s automobile industry from the present Rs 7.5 lakh crore to Rs 15 lakh crore, within the next 5 years.
